Our Story

My journey started with this guy here, Hugo. I maybe didn’t do all my research getting him but figured since I had this breed before it would be the same... but boy was I wrong. I find a lot of people often do the same, we have a great dog in the past so we get another thinking It will be the same! So if this resonates with you, I can tell you I've been there too. To mention a few things that we were struggling with, he would resource guard my space, so anyone entering my bedroom, anyone who hugged me was met with Hugo barking and lunging at them. He would never come when called, just thought I wanted to play chase with him when I said “come”. He would mark everything on walks, reacted occasionally at dogs, and would not settle when guest where in the home, always scanning his environment. Living in a student house of six girls, I was scared to leave the house feeling guilty if he would bark or cause problems. My world consisted of staying at home with my dog - what a way to live... (its not)!!
This is when I figured, I'm clearly doing something wrong and somethings gotta change. So I completed a six month apprenticeship with over 600 hours then was hired as a kennel tech. I attend seminars regularly, the most recent this past summer was the Jas Whitney and Pack Life LA. As I continue to learn, I like to say Im a sponge, constantly learning with every dog I meet. Im so excited to be along this journey with you.

Our Method

Balanced dog training is about finding how your dog learns best — using all parts of operant conditioning, from rewards to fair consequences. The goal is to discover the best way to communicate clearly with your dog.

We also take a holistic approach by looking at the bigger picture in your day to day:

  • How much exercise is your dog getting?

  • Is there structure in the home, or only freedom?

  • Is their diet supporting how they feel?

  • Are the rules consistent, and does your dog understand what’s being asked?

  • Is everyone in the household following the same expectations?

  • Are we fulfilling your dog’s breed-specific needs and instincts?

My mission is to help bring peace, clarity, and balance back into your relationship with your dog.
